OREGON COAST RAZOR CLAMS

Its time to get your shovels and your clam guns ready. Head for the Oregon coast, Seaside and Gerhart beach are your best chance of bagging your limit of Razor clams this year. Check your tides tables for (-1) and lower tides. Search the beach for a small round circle that looks similar to a donut with a small hole in it. Point your back to the ocean and dig like your next meal depended on it!

If you get there to late you will find that all the other clam diggers have hit the sand with the round handle of there shovels. This will make it very hard to tell a clam hole from a shovel inprint. Get there early is what I am saying, trust me if you get there late you will know just what Im talking about.

Razor clams are one of the most desirable shell fish around. In stores there sell for as much as $14.00 to $15.00 dollars a pound. There are a great number of ways to prepare these claims but my favorite is beer batter dipped and pan fryed in butter.

*The bag limit is the first 15 clams taken, regardless of size – small or broken clams must be included in the bag limit.
*All clam diggers, regardless of age, must dig their own clams, carry their own container to hold harvested clams, and may not possess more than one limit of clams in the clamming area.
*Clam diggers 14 years and older must have a shellfish license to harvest clams.
*Razor clams may be taken by hand, shovel or with a clam tube at least 4 inches in diameter.
