Eastern Oregon Deer Hunting

This was a great year for some, others no so much? There seems to be low counts of large bucks this year in Eastern Oregon, even with all the rain making tracking and stocking easier this year finding anything to shoot at was difficult. On top of all that Friday nights full moon, the night before the opening of the season, turned the desert floor into day-light. The deer where sure to get there fill that night, but some still managed to bag there Buck!
Sunday morning Cody and myself found our way into a small finger of a large rim rock canyon. Five minutes into the walk we jumped six does. We continued to walk up the steep hillside when all Hell broke lose, 12 deer dropped into the canyon from the West, still to far to shoot we spotted one spike and one fork, up over the next hill they went! After catching our breath we continued up the canyon and to our surprise there they were just standing there waiting for us at half the distance. We located the fork and started throwing lead!!! I was able to get two off Cody Didn't even get one off before they where gone. We looked most of the Morning and found no blood?
Later that afternoon back at camp I told my brother in law what had happened and we set up a plan. Cody and I would work our way to the top rim, Tony, his step father and brother would work the bottom. Everything was quite and not looking to promising until POW, out of the corner of my eye, right at the very bottom I saw Tony on one knee. One deer was down and there was two to the right and two more on his left. It was truly a stand off! No one wanted to move. It was like something out of the movies. In one split second all Hell broke lose deer running in all direction. POW! POW! Tony contacted me via two way radios and said that he and his dad had one down. Just then right in front of me out of no where there was the same 12 deer from the morning standing between Cody and I, POW! I let one go and by this time Cody joined in POW! POW! After everything was said and done we had three nice Bucks! It was one of the most successful Night hunts we have ever been on!
This was truly a great hunting trip for Grandpa the boys and myself, Special thanks to Tony for inviting us up this year!
